GOOGLE CLASSROOM!

An announcement:
I have informed all of the girls that I will be posting on Google Classroom! I will keep the girls updated on any homework assigned, any reminder, and any notes such as power points or handouts.

In order to join google classroom a gmail account is needed.

Steps on joining Google Classroom:

1. When you enter the gmail account there are boxes on the top right corner of the screen.
2. Once you have clicked on this, you will scroll down to the option "more" and click on it.
3. Once you have clicked on "more", you will see the option for Google Classroom.
4. Click on this option.
5. Once you are in Google Classroom, there is a plus sign on the top right corner.
6. Click on the plus sign and choose the option "join class".
7. Enter the code.

**The codes below are individual to each grade.

September 19, 2018

5th grade: For homework, students will be reviewing the first chapter of Wordly Wise words. Students will be doing an in-class writing assignment using the words. The girls will be provided with the words in a word bank. Please review with your daughter for the next couple of days.


6th grade: For homework, students will be reviewing their Wordly Wise words. An in class writing assignment using the words will be given on Friday. Please review with your daughter over the next couple of days.


7th:
Review the chapter one Wordly Wise words. There will be a short quiz where students will need to use the words in a creative story. Students will be provided with the words.



8th:
Review the first chapter of Wordly Wise words. The girls will be quizzed on Friday by using the words in a creative story. The girls will be provided with the words!!
SEPTEMBER INDEPENDENT READING:

**You will be given further information on Monday. I will answer any questions you may have regarding this assignment. 
 For September's independent reading, you may choose a grade appropriate book of your choice of any genre. This book must be approved.  **You may even use your choice book from the summer reading homework. Please keep in mind you will only have two weeks to read this book. 

Task: Complete the book of your choice by September 28th. On this day you will be given a choice of three questions and you must answer one of the three questions based on your book. Questions will be on common literary themes such as: characters, setting, plot, themes etc.



**Just a note to parents and students: This is the only month of the school year that independent reading will be formatted this way. Moving forward, the girls will have a different assignment for independent reading. I will discuss this further on October 1st. 
Homework over the weekend: 


5th grade: complete Activity B in your Grammar Workshop book. For Wordly Wise, complete Activities 1A-1C. Make sure to have the novel by Wednesday, September 19th. The title of the novel is: The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare.
6th grade: Complete Wordly Wise Activities 1A-1D for homework. For Wednesday, September 19th please have the novel: Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson 
7th grade:  Complete Wordly Wise Activities 1A-1D. On Wednesday, September 19th please have the novel: Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry by Mildred D. Taylor. 
8th grade: Complete Wordly Wise Activities 1A-1D. For Wednesday, September 19th, please have the novel:  Hidden Figures, by Margot Lee Shetterly.Please make sure the novel is the Young Reader's edition
